Cabo Matapalo, Costa Rica is a small eco-tourism community on the southwestern tip of the Osa Peninsula and a short distance from the entrance of the Corcovado National Park, considered one of the most biologically diverse places on Earth.
Cabo Matapalo has several rocky right point breaks that are exposed to the maximum energy of southern swells smashing into the Costa Rican coastline. “The Crack”, which is a rocky reef break where ocean swells come out of deep water and slam into the tip of the cape, then peeling along its rocky shore line.
Just in from “The Crack” is “Matapalo”, a short rocky right point break that gets good and a bit challenging on bigger swells. “Backwash” a large peaky right reef that is consistently one of the best waves in the area. “Pan Dulce” is a long rocky right point that works best on bigger swells when it peels around the corner and into the next bay.
