The surf in Samara used to get good on the incoming tide, but locals say a recent earthquake has raised the reef blocking the entrance of Samara Bay from incoming wave energy.  Small inconsequential waves make for great beginner surfing conditions.  There are several surf schools in Samara that teach tourists how to surf.
