Jaco, Costa Rica

Jaco Beach, Costa Rica, Central Pacific Coast (Puntarenas Province)

Jaco, Costa Rica is the most developed beach town in the central pacific region.  With the new toll-road to San Jose open, you can get from the international airport to Jaco in under two hours, making Jaco Beach a popular weekend tourist destination for Costa Rican locals.

The surfing in Jaco is not great, but does have its moments.  Most of the local surfers tend to head over to Playa Hermosa to get waves.  However, Jaco can serve up some really fun and punchy beach break peaks on an incoming tide.

The southern end of Jaco Beach is a great place to learn how to surf because the area is shielded from the full force of the swells reaching the bay of Jaco.

Jaco is known for its nightlife, more than for surfing, and anything goes in town.  This makes it a great destination for traveling surfers looking to party hard at the end of the day.

There are tons of surf shops in Jaco, Costa Rica, which makes it easy to rent surf boards and hire a surfing instructor to help you learn how to surf.
